Together we’ll explore the basics of natural dyeing through a mix of presentation, demonstration, and hands-on application. You’ll learn how to prepare fabric for pigments using processes like scouring, tannining, and mordanting, as well as how to shift color through pH modification and other methods to expand your palette.

Using thoughtfully sourced materials, including dried flowers, plant pigments, and produce—you’ll experiment with color and texture while creating a set of four hand-dyed napkins and extra fabric swatches. Students are also welcome to bring personal items (garments or accessories made from 100% natural fibers) to transform, guidelines will be provided ahead of class.

In addition to hands-on practice, you’ll receive a digital presentation that covers sourcing dye materials, detailed instructions for continuing your dye journey at home, and examples of contemporary artists who use natural dyes as part of their creative practice.

This beginner-friendly class is designed to give you the tools and confidence to carry natural dyeing into your own artwork, home goods, or wardrobe, supporting a more sustainable, mindful way of making. All materials are provided, and refreshments will be served.

I reserve the right to cancel the workshop 72 hours in advance due to low attendance or any extenuating circumstances.
