About

Hi NYC!

I am now accepting applications for Summer 2026 apprenticeships as I am in need of some studio support during a very busy time in the studio! Hoping to find someone excited to learn all things-textiles related!

This is an experience intended to deepen your knowledge of the textile medium and inform your understanding on the daily operations of an art studio/business. As the sole employee of Jessie Mordine Young Studio, the apprenticeship provides a hands-on, collaborative opportunity - something I find is essential for guidance and growth. Past apprentices have left my space with a new body of work built off of learned skills and a clearer direction on where they want to take their practice next. Individuals have also connection that continues to support their creative career. See below for more info and to see if this aligns with you!

By participating in this apprenticeship, the individual will support in the following areas of Jessie Mordine Young Studio:

Artwork Planning and Production: Assist with planning and production of commissioned works, mainly focusing on weaving, and natural dye techniques

Workshop Preparation: Help in organizing and preparing for workshops, including setting up materials, equipment, and assisting during the sessions

Project Development: Contribute to the development of long term projects, tasks are dependent on the stage that tue project is currently in.

Studio Maintenance and Upkeep: Aid in the overall maintenance and upkeep of the studio, ensuring a clean, organized, and efficient workspace

Content Creation: Assist in the creation of content related to the mentor's artistic projects, including photography, video production, and social media content.

Product and Service Development: Collaborate with Jessie in developing new products and services related to the studio's offerings, including one-of-a-kind artwork, prototypes for workshop instruction,

In exchange, the supporting individual will receive the following:

Access to Equipment and studio space: The Apprentice will have access to studio equipment such as looms, weaving tools, tufting guns, dyeing equipment, and other necessary tools for their work and practice. For the duration of the session, they will be able to have a devoted section of the studio for their project completion.

Usage of Tools and Materials : The Apprentice will have access to the studio's materials for their own learning and creative projects, within reasonable limits agreed upon by the parties. This includes yarn, rope, and cord, dye materials, fabric, etc. If there are specific equipment or materials that you would like to use or order that you feel could be a nice addition to the space, I am happy to chat about this! A materials stipend ($) will be provided and meals will be offered.

Educational Experiences: The apprentice will be able to enroll in any of the workshops I teach at the studio for free.

One-on-one mentorship/creative coaching: for your artistic practice and textile business development. Can support with short term and long term project planning and development.

Support with grant, residency, job applications, letters of recommendations. This can include peer review.
