Cotton slub dyed with indigo, linen, dried flower stem, shells from California coast

March 24, 2023

Each artwork comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist.

This piece is part of a collection of 365 woven works created over the 2023 calendar year, and reflects my daily engagement with the frame loom. Through an intuitive process of “drawing with thread,” the loom became both a tool for exploration and a space for reflection. I pushed plain weave—the simplest yet most fundamental structure—into new territory. Using naturally dyed fibers and found materials, I wove together colors and textures inspired by the shifting landscapes around me, capturing moments of place, time, and memory.

Each woven work from the “A Woven Year” project is currently on view at Dot and Grid Gallery in Brooklyn, NY from May 21st to June 1st. Please email hi@jessiemordineyoung.com to schedule a time to view the works in person.

Please note that the botanical elements in the woven works are delicate and may fade over time. If you have any specific questions about their care or preservation, feel free to reach out. Additionally, many of the yarns used are naturally dyed and can be sensitive to direct sunlight. To best preserve the pieces, I recommend displaying them in indirect light and using UV-protective framing whenever possible.
