A Woven Year Publication - NEXT BATCH ARRIVING DECEMBER 4th

from $85.00

This beautifully crafted volume explores the intimate, richly textured world of artist Jessie Mordine Young’s A Woven Year, a project of daily weaving completed over the course of 2023 that intertwines material exploration with personal reflection. Composed of naturally dyed handspun fibers, and intentionally sourced objects such as glass beads, dried flowers, and found materials, Young’s tactile sketches unfold as  diaristic reflections on time, intuition, and creative process.

Rachael Schwabe’s chapter, “Process and Protection in a Woven Year,” explores Mordine Young’s daily weavings as  a creative practice and emotional anchor. Through close and thoughtful observation, Schwabe considers how repetition, material exploration, and environment have shaped Mordine Young’s  woven sketches. The chapter reveals weaving not only as a visual process, but as a meditative act of care and record-keeping.

Through 365 vivid images of Mordine Young’s woven work,  placed alongside quiet revelations, this book offers a celebration of slow work, daily rituals, and the power of textiles to hold time, place, and feeling in their threads. Photos of the exhibition, which took place in Brooklyn in May 2025, are also included in this volume.

There are two gift wrapping options:

  • Plain white cotton gauze cloth

  • Blue cotton cloth, hand-dyed in this studio with indigo from Oaxaca

Please Note: Because our indigo-dyed napkins are crafted through a time-intensive, hands-on process, the gift-wrapping option featuring indigo-dyed cloth will ship after December 4th. We appreciate your patience as we replenish our supply of hand-dyed fabric. Each napkin is one-of-a-kind, and natural variations in color and pattern are part of the beauty of the dye vat process.

Book edited by Melissa Efrus.
